Know Where To Go

URGENT CARE

MILD OR MODERATE SYMPTOMS

 

Urgent care centers are the optimal place to go to treat minor illnesses and injuries. You should visit an urgent care center if you experience any of the following non-life-threatening conditions:

  • Sprains, strains and simple fractures
  • Cold, flu and other viral illnesses
  • Cuts, scrapes and minor burns
  • Ear and sinus infections
  • Fever
  • Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or dehydration
  • Pink eye
  • Skin infections or abscesses
  • Bladder infections
  • Bronchitis, pneumonia or asthma flare-ups
  • Minor illnesses in children
  • Rashes and minor allergic reactions
  • Insect stings and bites
  • Neck and back pain
  • Suture or staple removal
  • Work-related services, such as physicals and screenings

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT

SEVERE SYMPTOMS

 

The emergency department is the place to go to treat life-threatening illnesses and injuries. You should visit the ED if you experience any of the following symptoms:

  • Abdominal pain
  • Severe chest pain or pressure,
    especially if pain spreads to the arm or jaw
  • Major trauma
  • Shortness of breath or trouble breathing
  • Severe infections
  • Pregnancy complications
  • Passing out or fainting
  • Severe head, neck or spine injury
  • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or vision changes
  • Sudden weakness or droopiness on one side of body
  • Heavy bleeding that will not stop
  • Broken bones with bone visible
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Suicidal or homicidal feelings
  • Poisoning or drug or alcohol overdose
  • Ongoing vomiting or diarrhea

*If you go to an urgent care center and the provider there believes you need additional care beyond what the center can provide, he or she will direct you to the emergency department.

Pediatric Care

When your child needs immediate medical care, we're ready to step in. Our emergency departments include pediatric specialists who provide care specially tailored to the needs of children. For minor illnesses and injuries, we offer pediatric urgent care services at 28 ExpressCare locations throughout the region as well as at three pediatric-specific Children's Urgent Care Pediatric Specialists locations. Whether your child needs emergency treatment or just urgent care, our teams are there to treat each child with their unique needs in mind and get them feeling better fast.

The Emergency Chest Pain Center at Sinai Hospital is a cornerstone of the LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute, one of the most advanced cardiac care facilities in the region.
