The GME Application Process

We welcome your interest in Sinai’s general surgery residency. We value solid academic performance, strong work ethic, versatile interests and friendly personalities.

Applications for the surgical residency program at Sinai Hospital are accepted via ERAS. Submissions may begin when ERAS opens. Interviews are offered on a rolling basis so early applications are appreciated.

Both Step 1 and Step 2 or Level 1 and Level 2 scores are required to apply to our program.

For the 2024 ERAS cycle, our program will strongly encourage all applicants to complete a supplemental ERAS application, offered through the AAMC’s ERAS program. Applicants also will be required to complete the MyERAS application.

The additional information collected will help our program staff learn more about your medical education journey, including more meaningful information about work, volunteer, and research experiences, and will help us better identify applicants who fit our program’s environment and mission.

Please bookmark the supplemental ERAS application section of the AAMC website to find the latest information, FAQs, and resources.

Applicants may be asked to complete the SurgWise Situational Judgement Test. Interviews will not be extended without completion of this request. If you are offered an interview, you will be notified via Thalamus Scheduling by Stephanie Taylor, residency administrator. For the intern class of 2024-2025, the interview dates are as follows:

  • Tuesday, November 14

  • Tuesday, November 21

  • Tuesday, December 5

  • Tuesday, December 12

  • Tuesday, December 19

  • Tuesday, January 9

We interview approximately 10 candidates on each date and slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. We will be accepting up to four categorical residents to our intern class. At this time, we do not have preliminary positions.

Virtual Happy Hour

If you are offered an interview, you will be invited to a virtual happy hour the night before your scheduled interview date. This event will be held on Zoom and will allow candidates to meet the current residents in our program.

The Interview Day

This year’s interviews will be held virtually. Please ensure you have a laptop or desktop computer with a solid internet connection. Each candidate meets with our Program Director, Associate Program Director, and Department Chair in addition to three to five core faculty and residents. The interview day is expected to last five hours. There will be at least one break built into your schedule.

There will be an opportunity for in-person second-look visits at the conclusion of our interview season. We look forward to meeting you! Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions.
