Orthopedic Residency Meet the Residents

As of January 2020, the American College of Graduate Medical Education approved and accredited our new orthopaedic residency, taking our first new residents on board on July 1, 2020. We became the 176th accredited orthopaedic residency in the United States.

Why orthopaedics? I knew I wanted to be an orthopaedic surgeon ever since I went on a medical mission trip with a hand surgeon to Bolivia. I was captivated by the surgeon’s ability to impact someone’s life by restoring function after a life-changing injury. Orthopaedics is the perfect career for me because it incorporates my interests in anatomy, passion for sports, and requires creative problem solving. I am especially excited to be part of a field that is constantly growing and advancing with the development of new technologies.

Why Orthopedics? Orthopaedic Surgery is the perfect confluence of hands-on training backed by evidenced based thought processes. Often, we have the ability to provide care that enables a return to baseline status in a short amount of time. I was initially drawn to the field given my pursuit of medicine while running cross country in college. I am confident my training will allow me make the biggest impact on my community.

Why orthopaedics? I became interested because of my involvement in athletics. Additionally, the instruments used during orthopaedic surgeries reminded me of my father’s construction tools.

Why orthopaedics? The opportunity to restore biomechanical function to a person’s life is unparalleled in orthopedics. As someone who has dealt with several MSK injuries in the past, I know firsthand the value of regaining one’s functional status and the significant impact it can have physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Why orthopedics? I began learning about orthopedic injuries and anatomy while playing and watching sports. Family working in orthopedics helped expose me to the field early on in life. I am drawn towards orthopedics for the ability to restore function to patients and the innovative nature of the field, along with relationships they develop with their patients.

Why orthopaedics? What excites me most about orthopaedics is how it is constantly evolving, from new techniques and instrumentation to advances in implants and biologics. I was also drawn to the breadth of the field and the ability to operate across the entire musculoskeletal system, from the spine to the hand to the foot and ankle. Most importantly, I connected with the close knit, team-based culture of orthopaedics, where everything is centered around delivering the best possible care for our patients.
