Description and Goals of Course: |
This elective rotation offers subspecialty experience in Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism through active participation in the clinical care and teaching activities of the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Sinai Hospital and the Thyroid Clinic at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Participants will see inpatient consultations referred for endocrine evaluation, and review them with the endocrine staff on daily teaching rounds. In addition, outpatients will be seen in the Sinai Hospital Endocrine Clinics (5 days a week), the Sinai Hospital Lipid Clinic, the Sinai Hospital Diabetes Evaluation Center, and the Johns Hopkins Thyroid Clinic (Friday A.M.). Night call and weekend coverage will be limited to the unusual interesting endocrine emergency case.
Students attend and participate the didactic conferences offered by the Endocrinology divisions at both institutions: Johns Hopkins' Endocrine and Research Conferences, and Journal Club, and the Sinai Hospital's Clinical and Thyroid Scan Conferences.
Participants will be encouraged to design and pursue an independent reading program covering selected topics in clinical endocrinology.
Special arrangement may be made for students interested in pursuing a clinical or laboratory research project. |
