What to Expect

Referrals and Appointments

Clients may be referred to our seating clinic by physicians, therapists or other healthcare providers when mobility, positioning and/or equipment needs are identified.

Seating Evaluation

During your evaluation, our team will work closely with you and your caregivers (if applicable) to understand your medical, functional and environmental needs. You can expect to discuss:

  • Medical history to help us understand your diagnosis and long-term needs
  • Home and environmental needs to identify daily routines and potential barriers
  • Caregiver considerations to ensure recommended equipment supports both the client and those who assist with daily care
  • Current equipment to determine what is working well and what needs improvement
  • Transportation considerations to ensure your mobility system integrates safely with vehicles and community access

Your therapist will also perform several assessments, including:

  • Physical assessment to evaluate posture and alignment, range of motion and strength. Pressure mapping technology is available to support the evaluation process.
  • Functional mobility assessment to observe how you move and perform daily activities
  • Seating trials that allow you to test different equipment and configurations to determine the most appropriate system for comfort, safety and independence

Throughout the process, your RIS care team collaborates with assistive technology professionals and equipment suppliers to identify the best products for your needs.

Documentation and Insurance Approval

Following your evaluation, appropriate documentation will be completed by your therapist and referring healthcare provider to support recommendations and submitted to the equipment vendor.

All required documentation will also be submitted to your insurance provider for review and approval.

Delivery and Final Fitting

Once approved, your equipment will be delivered and fitted to ensure proper positioning, comfort and function. Our team will make any necessary adjustments and provide education on the safe use and care of your mobility system.
