Mr. Thompson has been a licensed and certified athletic trainer since 2011, after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Salisbury University. Sam has worked in a variety of clinical settings since immersing himself in the athletic training and sports medicine field, including high school, collegiate, industrial and hospital-based environments.
His collegiate athletic training experience began as an undergraduate student at Salisbury University, including a semester rotation at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He later served as a fellowship athletic trainer with the varsity football and women’s water polo programs at the University of Maryland, College Park. Mr. Thompson has also served as a summer athletic training intern with the Baltimore Ravens.
In his current role as sports medicine coordinator, Mr. Thompson works to expedite patient care needs at the practice and to expand services to the surrounding community. He also has served as a physician extender in the sports medicine orthopedic setting since 2014.
Sam keeps his skills sharp by working closely with the Maryland Soccerplex, providing on-site medical coverage during various sports tournaments and with youth football organizations in Maryland and Washington, D.C. He is actively involved with the Maryland Athletic Trainers Association in initiatives to promote expanded clinical practice settings for athletic trainers in Maryland.
In his free time, Sam loves spending time with his family – his wife, Michele, and their three daughters, Makayla, Makenzie and Makenna. He also enjoys playing flag football and participating in outdoor activities like grilling, hunting, riding ATVs and crabbing.
Same graduated from Salisbury University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training .
