Stay Ahead of Diabetes Complications
Living with diabetes means paying attention to more than just blood sugar. It also means monitoring how those numbers affect other parts of your body.
Over time, diabetes can impact the heart, eyes, kidneys and nerves—often without noticeable symptoms at first. An annual check-up with your primary care provider or diabetes specialist helps monitor your overall health, catch early signs of change and prevent or manage complications before they progress.
Recommended Care for People Living with Diabetes
Your LifeBridge Health care team can help coordinate the following health checks:
Foot Exam
At your annual visit, your provider will check your feet for signs of nerve damage, circulation issues or unhealed wounds. Because diabetes can reduce sensation and blood flow, regular foot checks are important for preventing infections and other serious complications.
Hemoglobin A1C Blood Test
This blood test measures your average blood sugar over the past few months. It helps your care team assess how well your management plan is working and determine if any changes are needed.
Kidney Function Test
Diabetes can affect how your kidneys filter waste from your blood. A routine urine or blood test helps monitor kidney function and detect early signs of damage, when treatment is most effective.
Dilated Eye Exam
During this exam, your eye doctor uses special drops to gently widen your pupils for a clear view of the back of your eyes. This helps detect early signs of diabetes-related eye disease and protect your vision before problems develop.
