Interventional Cardiology
Interventional cardiology is a special branch of cardiology which utilizes catheter-based treatments for diseases of the heart. This usually involves inserting a sheath into the radial or femoral artery and advancing guidewires and catheters up to the heart. Conditions for which you may be referred to an interventional cardiologist include coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, valvular heart diseases and blood clots to the lung.
