The Dr. Michael J. Schultz Cancer Survivorship Program

Care and Support for Cancer Survivorship: Beyond the Diagnosis

A Comprehensive Approach to Wellness and Survivorship

At LifeBridge Health, our patients’ cancer journey doesn't end with clinical treatment — it continues with a commitment to healing, wellness and ongoing support.

Soon to be located in the Mandy and Dennis Weinman Cancer Building and an integral program of the Alvin and Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute at Sinai Hospital, the Dr. Michael J. Schultz Cancer Survivorship Program will offer comprehensive care for cancer patients in every stage of their wellness journey. The program will begin on the first day of diagnosis, continue through treatment and transition seamlessly into post-treatment.

Patients will have access to a dedicated program navigator, a program coordinator and a full complement of integrated resources. Many are designed to establish baseline assessments and ongoing support.

Resources available and coordinated through the program may include:

  • Nutritional analysis and education throughout treatment
  • Development of financial assessment plans for ongoing health insurance management
  • Identification of resources and financial support for treatment supplies, transportation costs and wellness activities
  • Family resources for ongoing psychosocial coping skills
  • Healing therapies, including massage therapy, yoga and acupuncture

In addition, onsite resources of the Rehabilitation Institute at Sinai may include:

  • Access to the interdisciplinary team of rehab professionals, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, physical medicine and rehabilitation physicians and psychologists
  • Services including patient, family and caregiver evaluations and support, pain management, gait and balance assessment and treatment, and integrative medicine
  • Initial lymphedema (pre-op) evaluation and subsequent management using advanced technology conducted by highly skilled clinicians

Peer Mentorship and Survivor Workshops

You’re not alone. Our Survivors Offering Support (SOS) program will connect newly diagnosed patients with mentors who have walked the path of cancer and recovery.

This vigorous and popular program connects recently diagnosed cancer patients with trained and educated mentor survivors who provide a unique buddy support system. By providing information and sympathetic ears throughout the survivorship journeys, SOS mentors offer comfort, understanding and insights to the patients.

Mentors receive training in therapeutic listening, communication and understanding the cancer journey.

Mentors are not trained to provide clinical advice or medical opinions but can share their personal experiences and offer an understanding of the treatment journey.
