Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapy focuses on the evaluation and improvement of physical, cognitive and perceptual skills that affect one’s ability to perform functional tasks, often referred to as activities of daily living (ADLs).

Skills and Treatments

ADLs include self-care skills such as:

  • Dressing
  • Grooming
  • Bathing
  • Toileting
  • Preparing a Meal

Independent living skills such as:

  • Money Management

Community living skills such as:

  • Public Transportation Use

The scope of occupational therapy treatment includes:

  • Hand Therapy
  • Adaptive Equipment Training
  • Splinting
  • Visual-Perceptual Training
  • Energy Conservation Techniques
  • Joint Preservation Techniques

The occupational therapist also assesses the patient’s need for adaptive equipment (e.g. tub chair, raised toilet seat, reacher, sock aide, etc.) as needed.
