Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

At LifeBridge Health, we provide a broad range of treatments and services to meet the needs of patients with chronic and nonhealing wounds.

Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) is an advanced medical treatment used in wound care that can enhance the body's natural ability to heal using pure oxygen.

Conditions

Some conditions that can be treated with HBOT include:

  • Diabetic foot ulcers

  • Chronic bone infections (osteomyelitis)

  • Soft tissue radiation injury

  • Radiation injury to the jaw

  • Hard-to-heal wounds caused by certain medical conditions

What to Expect

During HBOT, you are placed in a pressurized chamber where you breathe 100 percent oxygen for an extended period of time. (The air we normally breathe contains only 19 to 21 percent oxygen.) High concentrations of oxygen are quickly delivered to your bloodstream, improving wound healing, helping fight infection, stimulating the growth of new blood vessels and improving circulation.

Taking advantage of our wound care services can be a positive first step towards preventing serious infection and completely healing your wound. Once we begin treatment, we may recommend home care or educate a family member to assist in providing proper wound care maintenance between appointments.

Our Northwest Hospital and Carroll Hospital centers offer HBOT and are accredited by the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society, ensuring they meet the highest quality standards of care.
