When young children or teens are hospitalized, they may face difficult and potentially stressful events that can affect their ability to cope. Our certified child life specialists at The Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai help patients cope with their hospitalization.
The goals of the Child Life Program are to:
-
Encourage optimal development of children facing a broad range of challenging experiences.
-
Educate patients and families and reduce their stress and anxiety.
-
Provide normal or home-like activities and experiences as needed for growth and development.
-
Create opportunities for children to express their feelings and bolster their self-esteem and independence.
-
Provide emotional support for families.
