Volunteering with
BridgingLife

At BridgingLife, formerly Carroll Hospice, our volunteers play an important role in providing patients with a dignified and comforting system of care during their final days.

Make A Difference

Whether you are new to the philosophy of hospice care or have become inspired through your own personal loss of a loved one, we know you will find your volunteer experience with us to be personally gratifying, and will come to fully understand the value of hospice care to patients and their families.

Some of our volunteers have professional skills or specialized expertise, but most are just people who want to help their friends and neighbors and serve the community.

Why volunteer?

Your work has a direct impact on those you serve. Though you will not earn money, you will gain the satisfaction of giving your time and talent to help patients and families in need.

    The benefits of volunteering include:

  • Sharing your skills, or learning new ones

  • Connecting with people

  • Learning about healthcare careers

  • Finding a sense of purpose

  • Improving your health from staying active

  • Increasing your happiness

What can volunteers do?

BridgingLife has many opportunities to get involved. Whether you want to work behind the scenes or interact with patients, there's a job that fits you and your schedule.

Here’s a sampling of volunteer opportunities:

  • Companionship

  • Vigil volunteer

  • We Honor Veterans volunteer

  • Fundraising and special events

  • Administrative or professional services

  • Serve as a camp “buddy” at Camp T.R.

Companionship

These volunteers serve as companions and helpers for patients and their families, either in private residences, BridgingLife's inpatient facility in Westminster (Dove House), our inpatient units at Northwest or Sinai hospitals, or healthcare settings such as nursing homes and assisted living communities. Direct care volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

Vigil Volunteer

Our inpatient facility welcomes these volunteers to sit with patients in their final moments of life. Our specially trained volunteers offer comfort and a supportive presence at that time.

Veterans

A participant in the We Honor Veterans program, BridgingLife has implemented a variety of programs to educate staff and the community about the needs of veterans and to recognize their contributions. Military veterans are needed to visit with and honor veteran patients for their dedicated military service to our country.

Fundraising and special events

Participate in and support key fundraising and outreach events that help us fulfill our pledge to care for all patients, regardless of ability to pay.

Administrative

Assist with tasks that help the organization run smoothly. This may include data entry, working at the reception desk and other clerical needs.

Professional

Offer licensed or certified services to patients or the organization. This includes the services of chaplains, educators, massage therapists, hair stylists, pet therapy and various integrative health modalities.

Camp T.R.

Serve as a camp “buddy” at our weekend retreat for grieving children. A one-day training session is required.

Groups and donations

We offer a variety of customized volunteer opportunities for service and church groups.
