Internal Medicine Research and Scholarly Activity

Sinai’s internal medicine residents have gained national recognition for their scholarly activity

Research and Scholarly Activity

All residents participate in scholarly activity during their training. Projects involve basic or clinical research, quality improvement projects, case reviews, epidemiologic studies, and clinicopathologic conferences. One of Sinai’s most publicized research successes was the development of the automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.

Basic research laboratories exist on campus in a variety of areas. Residents are assigned a faculty mentor throughout residency to help encourage academic participation over the course of 3 years. Research opportunities are available for both preliminary and categorical residents. Findings and results of scholarly activities are often presented at local and national meetings.
