Internal Medicine Research and Scholarly Activity

Sinai’s internal medicine residents have gained national recognition for their scholarly activity

Research and Scholarly Activity

All residents must participate in scholarly activity during their training. Projects may involve basic or clinical research, quality improvement projects, case reviews, epidemiological studies or clinico-pathological conferences. One of Sinai’s most publicized research successes was the development of the automatic implantable cardioverter-defibrillator.

Basic research laboratories exist on campus in a variety of areas. All residents are assigned a mentor and can participate in research during dedicated block rotations and throughout training. Preliminary residents can choose to do research as part of their continuity experience. Residents are encouraged to present their research at the regional American College of Physicians’ scientific session and at national meetings.
