Legacy of Giving: The Stoler Family Gives through Gratitude
$2.5 Million Combined Gifts from Long-time Supporters will Strengthen Care for Children, Families and Community at the Sinai Hospital of Baltimore
The spirit of family and giving has long been at the heart of Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, a legacy now carried forward in a remarkable new way by Lisa and Barry Stoler. The Stoler Family has made a transformative $2.5 million gift to strengthen pediatric care, education and family support. In recognition of their generosity and deep commitment to nurturing families, Sinai has named its Mother-Baby unit the Lisa and Barry Stoler Family Center — a place where thousands of families begin their journeys together every year.
“Sinai has been part of our family’s story for decades — from welcoming new life to facing serious illness,” says Barry Stoler. “We’ve seen the dedication of these incredible caregivers, and our hope is that this gift helps ensure every child and every family experiences that same exceptional compassion and care.”
The Stoler family’s connection to Sinai spans generations, rooted in both gratitude and the desire to give back. Their combined support will fund several high-impact initiatives, including:
- The Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital Schapiro Child Life Endowment Fund, supporting long-term creative arts therapies and emotional care for children.
- The Lisa & Barry Stoler Pediatric Clerkship Fund, advancing medical education for future pediatric caregivers.
- The Lisa & Barry Stoler Pediatric Clinical Advancement Fund, empowering nurses and clinical staff with specialized training.
- Teen leadership and family resilience programs through a partnership with imadi, serving families facing complex pediatric health challenges.
This latest act of generosity builds upon a powerful family tradition of philanthropy. Together with Barry’s parents, Leonard and Roslyn Stoler, the family has championed programs across Sinai Hospital — from the Michael J. Schultz Cancer Survivorship Program to the Stoler Family Clinical Advancement fund to the creation of the Lisa & Barry Stoler Pediatric Emergency Center. Their gifts have collectively touched every corner of Sinai, ensuring that care, education and compassion reach those who need them most.
My parents began the tradition of giving back. Lisa and I are proud to continue it, knowing that our children and grandchildren will also see the impact of helping others.
Amy Shlossman, president of Sinai Hospital and Grace Medical Center, expressed deep gratitude to the family: “The Stoler family’s generosity reflects the best of what it means to be part of a caring community. Their commitment ensures that every child, every parent and every caregiver who walks through our doors feels supported and valued.”
Julie Cox, chief development officer for LifeBridge Health, adds, “What makes the Stoler family’s philanthropy so extraordinary is how deeply it reflects their shared values. This is not just one couple making a gift — it’s one family, across generations, united by a love for their community and a belief that everyone deserves extraordinary health care. Their joint generosity strengthens Sinai today and sows the seeds for compassionate care for generations to come.”
For the Stolers, giving is about more than philanthropic recognition — it is about inspiring others to strengthen the bonds that hold communities together. “Giving isn’t measured in dollars,” Barry adds. “It’s measured in love, gratitude, and the willingness to lift someone else up. That’s what family means — and that’s what community means.”
