A Healing Journey

In healthcare, the “continuum of care” refers to the coordination of services throughout a patient’s journey, from preventive visits and hospital stays to rehabilitation and long-term support. At LifeBridge Health, this connected approach guides everything we do. Wherever a patient enters our system, our teams work to provide seamless, compassionate care tailored to their needs.
Laura and her family experienced this firsthand at Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital’s high-intensity care unit (HICU). In this specialized unit, they found the next step in Laura’s medical recovery and a team whose kindness helped them navigate the emotional side of healing.
“Our experience has exceeded any and all expectations we had coming into this journey,” her daughter shared.
After weeks in the hospital recovering from major surgery, Laura was weak, overwhelmed and unsure of what came next. That changed with a phone call to Levindale’s HICU, where her daughter connected with Kayla from the admissions team.
Kayla’s calm approach immediately put the family at ease. Her guidance helped them feel confident in their decision and supported throughout the transition.
“To this day, every time I visit my mom, I stop by just for a ‘Kayla hug.’ She feels like family now.”
That same level of care continued as Laura settled into the HICU. Her nurse quickly became a comforting presence, blending medical expertise with the kind of empathy that helped Laura feel more like herself. Her doctor provided steady guidance that reassured the entire family.
Levindale’s physical and occupational therapists were also instrumental in Laura's recovery, especially as she prepared for an emotional milestone. Just one week after her initial surgery, Laura’s daughter gave birth to her first child. With the therapy team’s direction and encouragement, Laura regained enough strength in just a couple of weeks to hold her grandchild—a moment her daughter describes as “unforgettable.”
“Their efforts brought us one of the most meaningful experiences of our lives,” she says.
Healing is better with community. Today, Laura is supported by the family she’s always known and the one she found at Levindale.
