Extraordinary Care in an Unexpected Way

At the Herman & Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai, team members know that pediatric care requires more than medical expertise. Every day, they meet young patients and their families with compassion—walking them through treatments, offering support in difficult moments and finding ways to bring comfort to an unfamiliar place. Sometimes, in the middle of it all, they even make a little magic happen.

For Grace, a young girl facing a devastating prognosis, that magic came in the form of a granted wish. She had requested a visit from Belle, Spidey and his amazing friends, and Poe and the Ravens cheerleaders—a group as unique as it was specific. Her care team got straight to work on pulling them together.

Child Life specialists Amy, Morgan and Emily were the first to step in. They coordinated the visit, drawing on their deep experience supporting kids and families across the hospital.

“To get all these characters to come with just a one-day notice was truly incredible,” one team member reflected.

But when Spiderman arrived, his crew wasn’t quite complete. One key hero was missing until Connor, a respiratory therapist who typically works with adult patients, stepped in without hesitation.

Connor suited up, took a few moments to study his character’s signature moves and made his way to Grace's room. He didn’t just wear the costume; he became a real-life hero.

“The impact he made on this little girl and her family was the sweetest thing to watch,” another team member shared. Every one of Grace's requested guests had now shown up.

For Grace and her loved ones, this was more than a visit. It was a bright spot, a beautiful memory in the middle of an incredibly difficult time.
