Baltimore, MD – LifeBridge Health’s Rubin Institute for Advanced Orthopedics (RIAO) was recently named one of ten clinical sites for a new study for The Polymotion® Hip Resurfacing device.

RIAO surgeons Ronald Delanois, M.D., Michael Mont, M.D. and James Nace, M.D., are all taking part in the study, implanting the resurfacing components in patients that began enrollment in March. The Polymotion® Hip Resurfacing device is a replacement implant that will be used in men and women under age 65 as a part of the ongoing clinical study.

This new investigational type of resurfacing component conserves bone by removing less of the femoral head, reshaping it to accommodate a metal cap that mirrors the natural anatomy. A cup made of Vitamin E polyethylene with a titanium coating is implanted into the patient’s acetabulum, a part of the pelvis. The components are designed to be permanently implanted, to achieve reconstructive and functional replacement of the hip joint.

“Thousands of people undergo hip replacement surgery each year, and we are committed to advancing research that explores new approaches to improve outcomes and preserve mobility,” says Dr. Michael Mont. “Participating in clinical studies like this reflects our dedication to innovation and our ongoing efforts to enhance orthopedic care for our patients.”
