Innovation
The center is internationally recognized for its innovative treatments for Perthes disease, clubfoot, congenital femoral deficiency, fibular hemimelia, bone infection, brachymetatarsia, bunions and deformities associated with achondroplasia. We use cutting-edge technology and the latest proven techniques to treat our patients’ complex orthopedic conditions. As an example, our doctors helped develop the Precice internal limb lengthening nail which has revolutionized limb lengthening.
Patient-Focused Care
The International Center for Limb Lengthening team takes pride in our compassionate patient-focused care. Our doctors spend time with patients and their families to listen to their questions and concerns and clearly explain all their options. Working together, they determine a customized treatment plan to help patients achieve their best possible result.
Strong Patient Support
In addition to our physicians, we have five physician assistants, a child life specialist to support children and their families, and a nurse who specializes in patient education. Some of our doctors offer free online chats so that potential and existing patients and their families can ask questions about their condition. We host a Facebook group for patients and parents of pediatric patients to share ideas and ask questions of other families going through treatment. The Herman and Walter Samuelson Children’s Hospital on Sinai’s campus has pediatric specialists in a variety of disciplines who support our care. For our children who are hospitalized, there are pediatricians on site 24 hours a day, and a pediatric intensive care unit is available if needed.
Specialized Rehabilitation
The Rubin Institute Rehabilitation Department offers advanced physical and occupational therapy on both an inpatient and outpatient basis for adult and pediatric patients at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore.
- Our on-site physical therapists specialize in difficult to treat orthopedic conditions in children and adults.
- Our state-of-the-art Wasserman Gait Laboratory conducts biomechanical assessment of patients while they walk so that our doctors and physical therapists can customize treatment.
- Our anti-gravity ALTER-G treadmill supports weight as a person walks or runs, enabling our patients to exercise sooner, even while still under weight-bearing restrictions, and accelerates the rehabilitation process.
