Pimlico Middle School Students Visit Sinai Hospital as Part of Health Sciences Partnership Program Between Sinai Hospital and Baltimore City Public Schools
What: Around two dozen sixth grade students in the Pimlico Middle Grades Health Sciences Program at Pimlico Elementary/Middle School will take a field trip to Sinai Hospital where they will get to be “medical detectives” in the hospital’s new, state-of-the art simulation center and meet with medical residents to learn from these young doctors.
This trip is the culmination of the first full-year of in-person learning for the ongoing academic partnership. Sinai healthcare professionals have been visiting the school throughout the year as part of the curriculum designed to create a pathway for students into the health and medical field. Students have had lessons from a pediatrician, diabetes educator, cardiologist and “Stop The Bleed” training, among others. The students visited the hospital in the fall to tour the emergency department and the Samuelson Children’s Hospital at Sinai.

Note: Sim Center is located in the Hoffberger Building at the back of campus. If you cannot find parking in the area, you may park at the main entrance visitor lot (2401 W Belvedere) and we will walk you through the building.
Why: The Pimlico Middle Grades Health Sciences Program is a three-year program at Pimlico Elementary/Middle School and administered in partnership with LifeBridge Health, Sinai Hospital and Baltimore City Schools. The partnership provides students an opportunity to take advanced science classes, helping to prepare them towards a career path in a medical or health-related field. Pimlico Elementary/Middle School is operated by the Baltimore Curriculum Project.
The program launched virtually in the 2020/2021 school year due to the COVID pandemic. This is the first full academic year for the program with in-person visits, classes and tours.
Sinai recently upgraded its simulation training capabilities, opening a new Academic Simulation Center with 10 new simulation spaces, including rooms dedicated for critical care, trauma, primary care and operating room simulations. The trainings mirror real-life scenarios with technically advanced simulation mannequins that can speak, bleed and interact like real patients.
