Sinai Hospital to Break Ground on Mandy and Dennis Weinman Cancer Building
What: Sinai Hospital of Baltimore will break ground on a new three-story, 125,000 square foot cancer building that will bring together all outpatient cancer services, serving both adults and children, into a state-of-the art facility designed around the care and comfort of people facing cancer.
The Mandy and Dennis Weinman Cancer Building, named in honor of the local couple who donated $5 million to help fund the facility, will be located along Greenspring Avenue. It will have 32 adult infusion bays, 16 adult exam spaces, seven pediatric infusion bays, six pediatric exam rooms, renovated radiation oncology suites and other support services and spaces.
This transformational project was designed with input from both patients and families, including adult and pediatric advisory groups. Multidisciplinary teams of healthcare providers and other staff also put in hundreds of hours to ensure this building will meet the needs of caregivers, patients and their families, now and in the future.
The building design features lots natural light and, along with treatment areas and exam rooms, will have spaces for patients and visitors, including a living room, areas for visitors to work while they are waiting, an art therapy space, a playroom and more. The adult infusion area on the third floor will offer patients a view of the nearby Cylburn Arboretum.
Caregivers from both the adult and pediatric oncology care teams will be on hand to celebrate the groundbreaking. Construction is expected to take about two-and-a-half years.
The new building also marks an investment and growth in cancer services at Sinai, including the recruitment of additional subspecialty oncologists and an expanded focus on research.

Why: Bringing all these oncology services together in one place will help patients get the care they need efficiently and effectively, as well as allow for enhanced collaboration among caregivers and services that are currently spread across the Sinai campus. With much of cancer treatment now provided in the outpatient setting, the new Weinman Building will have its own entrance and parking, so people will feel separated from the hospital when receiving care.
