Save-A-Limb Fund Events
This year's Robert I. Damie Race for Our Kids event will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2022 at the Maryland Zoo. There will be a 1-Mile Family Fun Walk as well as 5K and 10K Runs, and there will be a fun-filled post-event festival and celebration too! We’d love for you to join our Team RIAO/LBR/Batman, but you can also create your own fundraising team or go solo. Please choose the Save-A-Limb Fund as the charity your funds raised will support. Click here to register for the event.
Walkers will receive a short-sleeved shirt, finisher medal, and Zoo admission ticket. Runners will receive a long-sleeved technical shirt, finisher medal, Zoo admission ticket, and bib. There is an option to participate virtually as a Spirit Walker, but we hope we get to see everyone in person as all event activities are outdoors.
Past Save-A-Limb Fund Events
2021 Robert I. Damie Race for Our Kids
The Rubin Institute's Team RIAO/LBR/Batman showed up in full force at the 2021 Robert I. Damie Race for Our Kids event with over 100 participants on our team! Most of our team walked the 1-mile Family Fun Walk, but some also did the 5K through the Maryland Zoo, all to help raise funds for the Rubin Institute’s Save-A-Limb Fund. Thank you to all the patient families, staff and friends of the Rubin Institute who participated. The event, which also benefited the Samuelson Children's Hospital at Sinai and Center for Hope, culminated with a fun festival with games, the chance to meet Tetra the penguin, and a delicious breakfast provided by The Classic Catering People. Afterwards, many folks enjoyed seeing more animals in the zoo. It was so great to see everyone smiling outside—something we hadn’t seen in a long time since we were always masked inside the hospital!
2020 Virtual Race for Our Kids
Due to the pandemic, our 2020 Race for Our Kids event took place virtually in October. All registered participants received a Race/Walk in a Box full of swag including t-shirts, finishing medals, Maryland Zoo tickets and other goodies. After an online morning kick-off event, participants chose to walk or run at a place of their choosing.
Here is a picture of Dr. Herzenberg with one of our patient families showing off their medals and another one of Dr. Herzenberg outside ready to walk on the morning of the event.
Here is a picture of Dr. McClure wearing his 2020 Race for Our Kids medal and Dr. Nace holding his Race/Walk in a Box.
Here is a picture of a patient of the International Center for Limb Lengthening with Marilyn Richardson wearing their 2020 Race for Our Kids shirts and medals at the clinic entrance. The other picture shows a mother of one of our patients who is ready to walk the day of the race to support the Save-A-Limb Fund. Check out this link for more photos from the event!
Torrey Smith, two-time Superbowl Champion and former Baltimore Raven, participated in the Race for Our Kids with his family and shared a video of opening his family's Race/Walk in a Box with his children.
2019 Race for Our Kids
Thanks to all of the International Center for Limb Lengthening patients and their families and Rubin Institute staff who participated in the Race for Our Kids event on October 6, 2019. Team RIAO was over 70 people strong! We are grateful to everyone who donated or raised contributions to benefit the Save-A-Limb Fund. Everyone enjoyed a 1-Mile Family Fun Walk, a post-walk festival with a delicious brunch presented by the Classic Catering People, and a wonderful afternoon at the Maryland Zoo.
