Well Woman Exam

We recommend annual well woman exams for all women. These exams occur yearly, and typically include a gynecologic history, physical and pelvic exam, and a Pap test. Contraception counseling is also available.

The gynecologic exam traditionally includes a physical examination of the internal and external genitalia, pelvic organs, abdomen and breasts. The exam can help to detect cervical cancer, breast cancer, sexually transmitted infections, signs of physical or sexual abuse, pregnancy and many other conditions.

A Papanicolaou (Pap) test is also performed. This is when your provider collects a small sample of cells from the cervix to screen for cervical cancer or precancerous conditions such as human papillomavirus (HPV). The test is quick and usually painless.
