Sinai and Carroll Hospitals Awarded Regional Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace Award

Baltimore, MD-- LifeBridge Health’s Sinai Hospital of Baltimore and Carroll Hospital received “Gold” level Regional Breastfeeding-Friendly Workplace Awards from the Maryland Breastfeeding Coalition (MBC).

Earning these awards reflects both institutions’ commitment to supporting breastfeeding employees by providing access to resources such as private lactation rooms, lactation consultants, support groups and flex time to pump.

“When we support new mothers, we have a happier and healthier workforce,” says Joe Quinn, senior vice president and chief HR officer for LifeBridge Health. “Mothers are able to achieve a work-life balance, and we are able to retain excellent team members.”

According to breastfeeding advocates, worksite support of employee programs is a “win-win” situation. Employers benefit through increased rates of retention, employee satisfaction and morale. The health benefits of breastfeeding for mother and baby equate to decreased health care and insurance costs and a reduction in sick leave requests to care for an ill child.

“The businesses receiving these awards serve as role models for our region. We are so proud to honor them all,” says    Dr. Dana Silver, past president of the Maryland Breastfeeding Coalition and physician at LifeBridge Health.

The hospitals accepted the honor at an awards luncheon on November 30, 2018 at the Woodridge Neighborhood Library in Washington, DC. Sinai and Carroll hospitals were among 24 organizations honored.

Northwest Hospital, another LifeBridge Health center, also received recognition as a breastfeeding-friendly workplace from the MBC in 2012.
