Northwest Hospital Receives an ‘A’ for Patient Safety in Spring 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

Randallstown, MD – The Leapfrog Group has awarded Northwest Hospital an ‘A’ for its efforts in keeping patients safe and for meeting Leapfrog’s safety standards.

The Washington D.C.-based organization, which released its new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades today, assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performances in preventing medical errors, infections and other factors that can harm patients.

“Patient safety is our top priority at Northwest Hospital. Our employees take great pride and work tirelessly to ensure that all our patients receive the best quality care in a safe, compassionate environment,” says Faraaz Yousuf, president and COO of Northwest Hospital.

He adds, “We talk about a ‘quest to be the best” at Northwest Hospital, and this Leapfrog recognition affirms that our efforts are making a difference as we continuously strive to improve our procedures and policies.”

According to the Leapfrog Group, the grading tries to measure how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm and death, such as medical errors and injuries. The report uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,500 U.S. hospitals, with grades announced twice each year. It is peer reviewed and free to the public.

About 750 hospitals were recognized with an A in spring 2018.

“Receiving an ‘A’ Safety Grade means a hospital is among the best in the country for preventing these terrible problems and putting their patients first, 24 hours a day,” says Leah Binder, president and CEO of the Leapfrog Group.
