Center for Breast Health Receives $5,000 Donation for Exceptional Care

When Shannon Burlingame, of Pikesville, was diagnosed with breast cancer and sought care at the Center for Breast Health at Carroll Hospital, she did not know what to expect. What she encountered was a team of compassionate and caring team members who helped her navigate through her cancer journey and continue to do so today.

“Carroll’s Center for Breast Health has been amazing. Marcia [McMullin] and Dr. Hobart have been great, even the staff at the [William E.] Kahlert [Regional] Cancer Center have been amazing,” said Burlingame. “For one of the worst things you could go through, they are absolutely hands down an amazing bunch of people.”

Due to the exceptional cancer care she received along with her desire to give back to the community and help other women who are diagnosed with cancer, Burlingame donated nearly $5,000 to the Center for Breast Health on October 15, proceeds from a 5K run/walk organized by Burlingame’s sister, Michele Fetter, and her sister’s friends.

Nearly 100 people attended the 5K run/walk, which was held on October 3 at Blackbird CrossFit, a fitness facility in Eldersburg, Maryland. In addition to being a running and walking event, it was also a family affair with a raffle, food and activities.

“We are extremely thankful for this generous donation,” said Marcia McMullin, R.N., manager of breast health services at LifeBridge Health. “Our breast health services team are dedicated to supporting patients before, during and after their cancer journey and it’s comforting to know that community members, like Shannon, want to support our efforts in doing that.”
Burlingame said she hopes to hold other fundraising events to benefit the Center for Breast Health and the community in the future.

“I just want people to know how great the Carroll breast center is and how great the cancer center is and that I am so thankful I headed out there [for my cancer care],” said Burlingame.
