Carroll Hospital Announces First Recipients of New Dragonfly Award

Barbara Ellis, environmental services aide at Carroll Hospital, and Beth Ibanez, certified medical assistant at Carroll Health Group Primary Care in Westminster, were chosen as the first recipients of Carroll Hospital’s new Dragonfly Award.

A hospital team member for nearly 10 years, Ellis was recognized for her compassion and kindness toward a father who was anxiously waiting for his child’s delivery in the operating room.

“Barb stopped what she was doing and spent time with the dad, cheering him up, comforting him, and helping him overcome his anxieties. She gave selflessly of her time and exhibited the spirit of kindness and compassion,” said Mark Olszyk, M.D., vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer at Carroll Hospital, who presented Ellis with the award.

Ibanez has worked at Carroll Health Group Primary Care for seven years and was recognized for her friendliness and dedication to responding to patients’ medical needs.

“Beth jumped right in to assist a patient in order to avoid them having a delay in care. This patient also remarked how kind and conversational Beth was, which made the patient feel at ease and made their day better,” said Dr. Olszyk.

The Dragonfly Award was created to honor team members who understand the importance of hospitality and how a positive patient experience leads to better compliance, quality and safety. Through their actions, recipients instill patients and their family with confidence and loyalty and in so doing, enhances patients’ perception of care.

The award, which includes a check for $1,000, will be presented bimonthly to two hospital team members who exemplify the award’s criteria.

Community members and hospital employees are encouraged to nominate a hospital staff member for the award. For more information on how to nominate a Carroll Hospital team member, contact the Medical Affairs Office at 410-871-6899 or visit lifebridgehealth.org/nominations.
