The LifeBridge Health Cardiovascular Institute has a new dedicated hybrid room located in the cardiac catheterization lab at Sinai Hospital. This cardiovascular lab was developed for patients with cardiovascular conditions, the hybrid room leverages multi-disciplinary resources and can accommodate many procedures.
The facility is called a “hybrid room” because it allows a team to quickly shift from an endovascular procedure to open surgery.
Advantages of the hybrid room
- Our state-of-the-art angiography system has exceptional positioning flexibility, which allows a team to work together with greater comfort and precision.
- Advanced imaging systems provide quick and detailed information for faster and more accurate treatment.
- Patients receive significantly less X-ray exposure than from traditional devices.
- Complex cases are facilitated since the room is designed to handle both minimally-invasive and open procedures.
- Unique technology allows multidisciplinary teams to work together on a case-by-case basis, in the best interest of each patient.
Examples of hybrid room procedures
- TAVR/structural heart procedures
- Protected/high-risk PCI with Impella or percutaneous assist devices
- Thoracic endovascular, abdominal or iliac endovascular, and stent grafts and hybrid revascularization
- Future procedures include venous thrombectomy and lead extractions
What are the benefits of a hybrid cath lab vs hybrid OR?
- Patient safety. Because the hybrid room is all inclusive, any complications can be handled immediately without causing further problems or putting the patient at risk.
- Flexibility. Physicians are able to finish different procedures without having to move between floors or discharge patients.
- Savings. Because patients do not have to have multiple procedures scheduled over a period of days or even longer, patients save both time and money. It is also cost-effective for patients since delays caused by venue change are avoided.
- Outcomes. Patients have quicker recovery times, reduced treatment times and hospital stays, and need less rehabilitation, which means that patients and their families experience less stress and anxiety.
