- Gain the skills and abilities necessary to independently and competently optimize pharmacotherapy outcomes in various settings.
- Develop critical thinking and effective communication skills.
- Provide optimal pharmacotherapy and improve patient safety as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team.
- Instill confidence and improve leadership skills by expanding knowledge base and through education of other health-care professionals and patients.
- Promote professional development through continued education and self-evaluation.
PGY1 Pharmacy Residency Purpose
PGY1 residency programs provide structured, advanced educational and training experiences to develop or enhance a pharmacist’s skills to provide pharmaceutical care to a diverse patient population. The expectation is that graduates of the program will be prepared to practice in patient care positions in a health-system environment or pursue entry into a PGY2 training program in the specialty area of their choosing and to achieve board certification.
