Infusion Services at the Alvin & Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute
Chemotherapy is the treatment of cancer with drugs that can destroy or prevent the growth of cancer cells. The Alvin & Lois Lapidus Cancer Institute uses two different infusion therapy sites for patients whose treatment involves chemotherapy, blood products, IV medicines and fluids. One is located at Sinai Hospital; the other at Northwest Hospital. The site chosen for treatment for each patient depends on many factors, including what is most convenient for the patient and family.
The infusion centers are designed to provide state-of-the-art services and the latest technology as well as maximum patient comfort. Patients may receive their chemotherapy with other patients in a group room with comfortable recliners, or in private. Televisions with VCRs are easily viewed from each location.
Our infusion centers are staffed with specially trained nurses who are certified in the administration of chemotherapy. Oncology pharmacists, nutritionists, nurse practitioners, and a social worker also provide expert care.
Depending upon each patient’s medical needs, treatment times range from 15 minutes to 8 hours.
