Protein Suggestions

  • 1 or 2% cottage cheese
  • Greek yogurt – Mix with Activia, Stevia or Splenda, 1 Tbsp sugar-free jelly, flavored protein powder, vanilla or almond extract
  • 2% or part-skim cheese – String cheese, cheese cubes
  • Eggs – Hardboiled, Egg Beaters, scrambled (microwave)
  • Chicken – Sausage, canned, unbreaded tenders, breasts, thighs. Limit fried chicken, wings, chicken skin and breaded chicken. Packaged precooked sliced or whole breasts from the deli
  • Turkey – Deli sliced, ground (lean). Add to chili, burgers, meatballs
  • Pork loin/pork loin chops – Try using a crock pot to keep moist
  • Lean ground beef (Aim for beef/red meat less than once per week) – 93/7 fat content
  • Seafood – Crab, lobster, scallops, shrimp, mussels, oysters
  • Fish – Tuna or salmon salad/cakes (try plain yogurt instead of mayonnaise), Char, tilapia, whitefish, halibut, sardines

  • Chicken broth flavor – tomato soup, chili
  • Unflavored – cottage cheese, yogurt
  • Chocolate – oatmeal, sugar-free pudding, muffins, sugar-free hot chocolate
