Toe Deformity with Short First Toe/Metatarsal

This 43-year-old female patient underwent a bunion procedure when she was an adolescent. This procedure shortened her first metatarsal (toe bone). The shortening resulted in deviated toes and pain. The patient underwent lengthening of her first toe, osteotomies (the bones were cut) of her lesser toes, and toe correction at the International Center for Limb Lengthening. After treatment, she had excellent foot position, restoration of the metatarsal parabola (length of the metatarsals), and corrected toe position. She is especially pleased with her results as she is able to wear sandals without feeling embarrassed.
