Brachymetatarsia (Short Toe/Metatarsal) Correction

This teenage patient had congenital brachymetatarsia (short fourth toe), which was corrected by metatarsal (toe bone) lengthening with external fixation. This minimally invasive, percutaneous lengthening method preserves joint function of the toe while simultaneously lengthening the metatarsal. This method requires only a minimal number of incisions to be made. The patient was able to weight bear as tolerated in a surgical shoe during the entire treatment process. The fourth toe was successfully repositioned. Excellent alignment and function were achieved.
