Spine Diagnostics
The most advanced diagnostic procedures and equipment are used during patient evaluations. These may include MRI, CT scan, diagnostic injection procedures, myelography, ultrasound, EMG and nerve conduction studies.
Spine Treatments
We offer advanced programs that focus on non-surgical intervention as well as the latest surgical treatments available. Sinai was the first hospital in Maryland to offer the revolutionary and non-invasive CyberKnife®, which can treat tumors of the spine and neck that were previously inoperable.
At Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, the treatment goal is to eliminate pain, restore maximum function and formulate a plan for long-range care.
Non-Surgical
Resolution is first attempted through conservative therapy, such as injections, oral medications and physical therapy.
Outpatient programs offered by the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine is an important component of the comprehensive spine care offered at Sinai. Emphasis is placed on recovering maximum function through various exercises and with the aid of special equipment, under the direction of certified physical and occupational therapists.
Surgery
Spinal surgery is effective at managing and often resolving a number of spinal conditions.
Current surgical procedures offered at Sinai's Spine Center include:
- Anterior Cervical Discectomy
- INFUSE® Bone Graft Spine Fusion
- Kyphoplasty and Vertebroplasty
- Posterior lumbar discectomy
- Posterior lumbar decompression/laminectomy
- Spine fusion (anterior and posterior)
- Reconstructive surgery
- Spinal cord stimulator/neuromodulation therapy
- CyberKnife®
- X-Stop®
Spine surgery is performed on the fourth floor of Sinai Hospital. There are two operating rooms dedicated solely to spine patients and procedures and are equipped with the latest spine technology available.
Sinai Hospital's in-patient spine unit includes nine private rooms on the third floor of the main hospital. Nurses who have received specialized training in orthopedic care staff the unit. A primary care team, which includes a nurse, physical therapist and other support staff, are assigned to each individual patient, to ensure ongoing benefits from treatment.
Our goal is to set a standard for high-quality spine care that gets people back on their feet. Our patients will benefit from a system that focuses on patient education and has been customized to their individual needs.
