Sinai Dialysis Access Center - Priority Care

The Treatment Process

The Sinai Dialysis Access Center offers an accurate diagnosis for temporary and long- term vascular access issues. Once the patient has been evaluated, the best course of treatment will be determined by our multidisciplinary vascular access team, which has the concentration of skills and resources necessary for expert diagnosis and management of vascular accesses. Vascular surgeons perform all procedures; which ends the need for multiple specialist/facility care.

Reasons for Referrals:
  • Increased venous pressures
  • Increased negative arterial pressure
  • Pulsatile access site
  • Decrease in thrill or bruit in access
  • Difficulty with cannulation
  • Prolonged bleeding post dialysis
  • Inadequate dialysis
  • Treatment of dialysis catheters (extra corporeal blood flow less than 300ml/min and catheter related bacteremia)
  • Dysfunctional CAPD catheter
  • Evaluation for Steal Syndrome
  • Evaluation for Access
Priority Care at SDAC

The  dialysis access manager works closely with local and regional community-based dialysis centers to facilitate:
  • Patient referrals
  • Same day or next-day service for access-related complications and a two-week or earlier timeframe to establish permanent vascular access
  • As necessary, immediate access for patients who need surgical attention or follow-up care for dialysis access issues
Clinical excellence, adherence to National Kidney Foundation standards, easy and quick access, timely patient care and immediate physician feedback distinguish the Center's service.
