Pediatrics Neurology Elective

Description of Course: The student will participate in the evaluation of children with a variety of neurologic complaints including headaches, tic, developmental delay, and seizure. Diagnosis frequently encountered include the various epilipsies, headache syndromes, tic disorders, autism, and ADHD. Children with rarer disorders, including the neurodegenerative diseases and neuromuscular problems, may also be encountered. The student will participate in the office with outpatient evaluations and will be involved with inpatient consultations and rounds.

The goal is to become familiar with the neurologic exam at various ages and to be comfortable with the more common diagnoses encountered.

Prerequisites include a medical school cumulative grade point average of 3.0, a USMLE Step 1 score of 85 or better, completion of a pediatric clerkship, be a fourth year medical student and plan to apply for the pediatric residency program at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Inc.
