| Description and Goals of Course: |
The Division of Neonatology offer a 4 week elective to the medical student. The Division includes; 4 full-time neonatologists and a staff consisting of neonatal nurse practitioners, respiratory therapists, a neonatal nutritionist, occupational and physical therapists, clinical nurse specialists and social workers. Clinical services are provided in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, a step-down Special Care Nursery, and a Full-term Nursery for healthy babies. NICU admissions cover the full range of medical and surgical problems of premature and critically ill newborns. The Full-Term Nursery is designed to provide unified mother-baby nursing for infants who are term or near-term and have no acute medical problems. The rotation for the student is designed to provide an overview of the wide spectrum of child care provided by the neonatologist. |

Prerequisites include a medical school cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better, a USMLE Step 1 score of 85 or better, be a 4th year students and have completed a Pediatrics Clerkship. |
