Are you unsure of what you should eat to manage your diabetes? Well, a great place to start is with a 9 inch plate. Half of the plate should be filled with non-starchy vegetables such as broccoli, spinach, carrots, summer squash; the more color the better. Now divide the other half of the plate into equal sections of a starch and a protein. Your starch could be potatoes, corn, noodles, rice, peas, but not piled high. For your protein choose chicken, turkey, fish, lean beef or pork. If you are not a meat eater choose beans, cottage cheese or tofu.
You may be thinking “that is not going to be enough for me.” You can also have a fruit and milk or yogurt on the side, and you can always have a salad for added bulk. Don’t forget to drink 6 to 8 glasses of sugar- free fluids per day. Follow this easy plan and you will be on your way to a healthier you!
