Medicine/Anesthesia PreOp

Medicine/Anesthesia PreOp

Image of a Doctor Understanding the complex influences of aging and multiple co-morbid conditions on surgical outcomes is very important for a surgeon. This rotation, split into two weeks of anesthesia and two weeks of medicine pre-op, will teach the resident the principles and concepts of pre-operative risk assessment and optimization.
The medicine portion of this rotation is mainly office based and outpatient oriented, but also includes inpatient consultations for "medical clearance."

The anesthesia portion is focused on peri-operative assessment, as well as intra-operative management. The resident should learn the basic principles and possible complications of various anesthesia techniques, as well as intubation and other anesthesia-related procedures.
