Sinai Hospital offers electives for medical students in a variety of specialty and sub-specialty areas. The minimum requirements for acceptance by a department are a medical school cumulative grade point average of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) and a USMLE Step 1 score of 85/205 or a COMLEX score of 80.
In addition to the minimum requirements, some departments have additional requirements:
Pediatrics requires that medical students seeking electives in their department have completed a pediatric clerkship and plan to apply to the Sinai Pediatric Residency program.
Ophthalmology only accepts American medical school students.
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation only accepts medical students interested in pursuing a career in PM&R.
Obstetrics and Gynecology only accepts American medical school students with Honors or A/B+ in Ob/Gyn

Once you have selected an elective:
1. Complete Part I (page 1) of the Application form
2. Have your medical school complete Part II (page 2)
3. Provide the required verifications and documentation listed on the application
4. Read, sign and return the Confidentiality Form
5. Fax, email or mail the application, confidentiality form and required documentation to
the Medical Education Office:

Applications and all required documentation must be received two months in advance of the date the applicant wishes to begin the elective. Upon receipt of a complete application package, we will review it and if the applicant meets the minimum and departmental requirements, send the application to the department for review. The applicant will be notified of the final decision of the department.
Sinai Hospital does not have housing on campus and arrangements must be made on an individual basis by the student.
