Elective / Apprenticeship

Elective / Apprenticeship

Apprenticeship  During the PGY IV year, the Sinai surgical resident is afforded the opportunity to complete one to two months in an elective rotation. This educational activity may be done in the form of an apprenticeship rotation with any of the Sinai faculty or, after specific goals and objectives have been established with the program director, at any US teaching hospital.

The goal of this rotation is twofold: 1) to allow the resident to do a rotation in the specialty he or she may choose for future fellowship training; 2) to allow the resident to gain additional experience in an area or subspecialty he or she feels the need for additional training.

To accomplish their goals, our most recent residents have chosen:

  • Rotation in Head & Neck/Plastic Surgery, PSGF, Albany, NY

  • Rotation in Colorectal Surgery, GBMC, Baltimore, MD

  • Rotation in Advanced Trauma and Critical Care Radiology, STC, Baltimore MD

  • Rotation in Bariatric Surgery, Sinai, Baltimore, MD

  • Rotation in Endoscopy, Sinai, Baltimore, MD

We are currently exploring the possibility to extend this opportunity to three months and to possibly include a foreign country rotation with humanitarian mission.
