RESEARCH AND SCHOLARLY ACTIVITY

All residents must participate in scholarly activity during their training.  The research projects usually involve clinical research.  However, basic research laboratories exist on campus in a variety of areas and are available to residents with suitable projects.  Residents work with mentors to select an appropriate topic and meet with a statistical consultant to plan suitable study design and data analysis.  Projects are initiated in the second year and completed in time for presentation at the end of the third year of training when the residents present their work at the Resident Research Day.  In the fourth year, residents submit their projects for regional or national presentation and prepare their manuscripts for submission for publication.

Stephen Contag, M.D. is the Research Coordinator for the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Residency Training Program.  In addition, Christopher D’Adamo, PhD, Statistical Consultant, assists with providing the statistical consultation, SAS data conversion, statistical analysis and presentation of results for the research projects.

TRAINING INSTITUTIONS

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program takes place at Sinai Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.  Residents spend 46 months at Sinai Hospital and rotate 1 month in their PGY2 year and PGY3 year, respectively for Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at Johns Hopkins Hospital.  This is an excellent rotation and both institutions and residents benefit from this rotation.
