The Eisenberg Medical Library
The Eisenberg Medical Library serves Sinai Hospital employees, as well as students and others rotating through the hospital. Users have access to our large collection of online journals and books, plus smaller collections of print materials. Interlibrary loan services are available for items we do not have in our collections. Computers, Microsoft Office, scanners, printers and copiers are available in our recently renovated facility. Please contact the Eisenberg Medical Library with questions or concerns.
Overview of Library Services
The Eisenberg Medical Library offers a wide array of onsite and online services to LifeBridge Health employees located on the Sinai campus. Some of our services are available to employees of the Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center (check your library services Intranet page). Below is a summary of the many services we provide. We maintain an Intranet page for both Sinai and Levindale. Access to the library on Sinai’s campus is controlled by a badge reader located outside the library. Your Sinai ID Badge controls your access. Clinical groups, management and administration also have access with their badge. If there is a problem contact your supervisor or the library.
Books and Journals: The library maintains a small collection of books and journals in print format, including some journal resources to the late 1960s. The library maintains thousands of journals and textbooks electronically. LibraryWorld is an online catalog of books the library owns, and A to Z Journal is an online catalog of the library’s electronic journal resources, plus some of our electronic book titles.
Interlibrary Services: Interlibrary loans, or ILLs, can be requested for materials (articles, books, etc.) that are not available in our library either online or in print. There is an “Article Request” form link on our main Intranet page. Turnaround time varies, but on average the following is what you might expect:
- Articles: usually filled and available in PDF in 24-36 hours.
- Books, audio-visuals: usually filled and available in 2-3 days.
***Note regarding books and A/V materials: These are subject to availability, and if already in circulation to another customer, the waits could be considerably longer. The library staff will communicate this to you should this be the case.
Ovid: A database aggregator, which allows searching of multiple databases from differing suppliers, with one unique set of searching instructions and formats.
UpToDate: UpToDate is dedicated to synthesizing knowledge for clinicians and patients into a useful patient care and treatment resource.
EBSCOhost is a database aggregator as well, and provides access to hundreds of various databases in the cadre of resources.
Mosby's Nursing Skills is a skills and procedures product for nurses that has been adapted from authoritative resources.
ClinicalKey provides access to textbooks, CME, journals, clinical guidelines, and drug information in an easy-to-use product.
Micromedex provides a number of very respected and useful databases relating to the care of the patient.
The Advisory Board is a searchable resource that provides reports and research documentation from the research staff of the Advisory Board Co. This includes reports, news and research summaries. These cover a multitude of dynamic and practical solutions to health care problems.
