Yassar K. Youssef, M.D., is the head of the Division of Robotic Surgery at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. He is a board-certified surgeon who completed two fellowship trainings in advanced laparoscopy with specialization in minimally invasive and robotic surgery. Dr. Youssef has extensive experience and skills in advanced laparoscopy, SILS (single incision laparoscopic surgery) and NOTES (natural orifice trans-luminal endoscopic surgery).
Since his training, Dr. Youssef has been successful in offering single site surgery to patients who have conditions that usually make them poor candidates for a minimally invasive approach. These conditions include previous surgery, obesity and internal scarring, among others. Dr. Youssef has been able to offer minimally invasive surgery to patients with BMIs as high as 62.
In addition to performing the first single-site robotic cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal) in Baltimore, Dr. Youssef is one of the busiest single-site surgeons in the state of Maryland. He is a national proctor for the da Vinci® Surgical System, and is involved in educating and teaching other surgeons on how to perform robotic surgery through case observations, proctoring and lectures.
In this WBAL-AM “Know Your Health” radio clip, Dr. Youssef discusses the da Vinci Surgical System for minimally invasive surgery.
