Ross Sugar, M.D., an expert clinician and researcher in the field of pain management, joins the full-time faculty at Sinai Hospital's Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation department . Dr. Sugar serves as a diplomat of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and is ABPMR certified in the subspecialty of pain medicine.

Dr. Sugar earned his degree in medicine from the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, where he investigated medical causes of stroke as a recipient of the A.D. Williams Research Fellowship. He completed an internal medicine internship at the University of Maryland Hospital and was named chief resident of the Sinai Hospital of Baltimore/Johns Hopkins Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Residency Program. Dr. Sugar received highly    specialized pain medicine fellowship training through the Emory University/Georgia Pain Physicians Pain Management Program, later working as a staff physician at Georgia Pain Physicians, P.C.

His research about the use of spinal injections and nerve blocks has been published in peer-reviewed journals including Pain Physician and The Clinical Journal of Sports Medicine. He is the  recipient of the Arthur Siebens Outstanding Senior Resident Award and the Elkins Award for national top score on part I of the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation board examination.

Dr. Sugar's areas of expertise include interventional pain procedures, rehabilitation medicine, musculoskeletal and neuromuscular medicine, sports medicine, joint injections, myofascial pain/trigger joint injections, and electrodiagnostic medicine. He will coordinate the multidisciplinary pain programs in the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation  at both Sinai and Northwest Hospital .
