     Northwest Hospital , a LifeBridge Health facility in Randallstown, has

been named a recipient of the prestigious CareScience Select Practice National

Quality Leader Award.  The award, granted annually, recognize hospitals and health

systems for organizational dedication and achievement in enhancing the quality and

efficiency of care delivered to patients. 

     According to clinical data from CareScience, Northwest Hospital ranks in

the top 1-percent of 4,500 acute care hospitals nationwide for overall patient care. 

Northwest is also only one of two hospitals in Maryland chosen to receive this award. 

The data indicates that, on average, Northwest Hospital patients experience fewer

complications and have shorter lengths of stay..

      "At Northwest Hospital, we set specific and measurable goals focused on the

enhancement of patient care and safety,” said Erik Wexler, president and chief operating

officer of Northwest Hospital.  "This recognition from CareScience confirms what

we've been working toward, becoming a recognized leader in providing the best

possible health care to our patients and community.”

     CareScience Select Practice National Quality Leaders are identified through the

use of the CareScience Select Practice methodology, which employs both quality and

efficiency dimensions to rate hospital performance.  Unlike other national hospital

rankings, which rely heavily on financially-based measures and/or opinions of a

hospital's reputation, CareScience analysis uses only clinical and quantifiable data to

determine excellence in quality and efficiency.  This data includes 16 different clinical

indicators, more than any other national quality award or designation.

medicine and president of the medical staff at Northwest Hospital.  "It represents the

efforts of every member of the Northwest Hospital health care team.  And it

reaffirms the positive comments that I personally receive from family and friends who

have been hospitalized at this very caring institution.”
