Sinai
Hospital of Baltimore is excited to announce a partnership with ARAMARK
to implement a Room Service delivery model for patient meal service. Patients at
Sinai Hospital will now be able to enjoy a meal anytime of the day from a
"restaurant-style” menu that is specific to their diet.
"We expect this innovative enhancement to provide an
exceptional dining experience for our patients and significantly improve overall
satisfaction,” says Neil Meltzer, president and COO of Sinai Hospital.
Patients are now able to call directly to the Food and
Nutrition office for a meal of their choice, instead of a nurse tracking down a
meal in off-hours. According to Laure Sullivan, director of Food and Nutrition
Services at Sinai, the room service model will actually create less work for
nurses on the floors.
"We have reassigned some of the dietary personnel to
serve as host and hostesses
on each of the floors,” commented
Sullivan. Host and hostesses are on hand to provide patients with
color-coded-by-diet menus, which include Kosher options, and guide them through
the menu choices. Additionally, parents of children at The
Children's Hospital will be able to order meals from home via the phone
up to 24 hours in advance.
A year of planning has gone into implementing this
personalized approach to food delivery. Recently, Sinai's kitchen was upgraded
to accommodate the new workflow of putting trays together. Additionally,
dietary staff members have gone through extensive training on several of the new
elements of the room service model.
"Our goal with this service is to give patients more
choices as well as a sense of control in an environment where it can feel like
they have very little,” Sullivan said.
Patients can expect the following during their stay at
Sinai:
-
Personalized host/hostess service providing patients
with a "restaurant-style” menu that is specific to the patient's diet.
-
Host/hostess will assist patients with the order
process if they are unable to do so themselves.
-
"All Day Dining” - the ability to eat what they want
to eat, when they want to, delivered within 45 minutes of ordering
-
Meals "made to order” per patient's
request
