|
The Department of
Surgery at Sinai
Hospital of Baltimore recently received Residency Review Committee
(RRC) approval for a three-year, accredited surgical residency program. Sinai
Hospital's Department of Surgery will immediately begin recruiting qualified
applicants in July 2007 for admission.
"Sinai Hospital is excited to offer medical students the
opportunity to gain surgical experience in an intimate and intensive learning
environment,” said Neil Meltzer, president and COO of Sinai Hospital of
Baltimore. "We are pleased to be able to expand our extensive graduate medical
education program at Sinai to include surgery, and train the next generation of
intelligent, well-rounded, compassionate and talented surgeons.”
Participants in the residency program will be exposed to
a variety of areas, including surgical research, the business of medicine,
public health, health care administration and finance, trauma surgery and
critical care fellowships.
Additionally, Sinai has formed strong academic
affiliations to enhance the comprehensive surgical training of its residents.
Participants in Sinai's surgical residency program will take part in several
rotations including a transplant surgery rotation, a recontructive surgery
rotation at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, a trauma rotation at the R A
Cowley Shock Trauma Center and an intensive pediatric surgery rotation at Alfred
I. duPont Children's Hospital in Delaware.
"A surgical residency program is critical to a teaching
institution, such as Sinai Hospital,” said Adrian Barbul, MD, chair of the Department of Surgery. "We are
thrilled once again to be able to train the area's future surgeons.”
Sinai Hospital of Baltimore is a member of LifeBridge
Health, a regional health organization, which includes Northwest Hospital Center, Levindale Hebrew Geriatric
Center and Hospital, Jewish
Convalescent & Nursing Home, and related subsidiaries and
affiliates.
