Northwest Hospital Physician Elected Treasurer of Baltimore Society of Hospital Medicine
Chaitanya Ravi, M.D., of Northwest Hospital Center has been elected treasurer of the Baltimore chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine.
Clinical director of Medical Affairs at Northwest Hospital in Randallstown, Ravi has been a Northwest Hospital physician for 15 years and was instrumental in the founding of the newly created Baltimore chapter of the Society of Hospital Medicine.
With the start of the Baltimore chapter, Ravi is encouraged that this will enable the role of the hospitalist to expand in the area, something he was
able to be a part of at Northwest Hospital. "It feels great to be involved in beginning a new chapter. I look forward to doing what I can to help increase
its membership," Ravi said.
The Society of Hospital Medicine is dedicated to promoting the highest quality of care for all hospitalized patients through education, advocacy
Hospitalists are physicians whose practice emphasizes providing care for hospitalized patients. By focusing
on the care of hospitalized patients, a hospitalist can gain a great deal of experience in the unique aspects of
a patient's needs during the hospital stay. Over the past 10 years, the number of hospitalists in North America has grown from approximately 800 in 1993 to nearly 8,000 in 2003, with projections of 25,000 hospitalists by 2010.
Northwest Hospital Center's hospitalist program has been in
existence since 1999. Nearly 25 percent of the hospital's annual 3,000 inpatient admissions are under the care of a hospitalist.
Northwest Hospital is a member of LifeBridge Health, a regional health organization that includes Sinai Hospital, Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital, Jewish Convalescent & Nursing Home, and related subsidiaries and affiliates.
