Sinai Hospital of Baltimore Names Tina Gionet Patient Safety Officer
Tina Gionet, R.N., M.S., has been appointed the Patient Safety officer for Sinai Hospital of Baltimore. The role of the Patient Safety officer is new to Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, and in this position, Gionet will work in partnership with physicians, staff and leadership to improve the safety of patients and to build a culture of safety at the hospital.
Gionet has worked at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore since 1982 as a nurse manager on the Medical/Surgical Unit, then as a supervisor in Utilization Review, and then as a Performance and Risk manager.
In her new position, Gionet's responsibilities include education, identification and monitoring of established patient safety activities. "My goals are consistent with the mission and vision of Sinai Hospital of Baltimore,” said Gionet. "I will work with all of the staff to create safety mindfulness." I will compel the staff to look past the easy answers and determine the root to safety issues.”
"In addition to the wealth of experience Tina brings to the patient safety role, she has also cultivated knowledge as well as management skills in the area of public reporting of quality data, an important aspect of patient safety,” said Barbara Epke, vice president, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore.
In Gionet's previous position at Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, she was responsible for development, implementation and monitoring of an integrated performance improvement program in accordance with Sinai's performance and patient safety improvement plan.
Gionet earned her master's in Health Care Risk Management from Finch University of Medical Sciences/Chicago Medical School in Chicago, Ill., and a bachelor of science degree in Nursing from Rutgers State University in Newark, NJ.
